Why this page exists

Everything published on asianworldkashmir.com takes the same route from idea to page. This document explains that route so you can judge our work fairly.

Who signs the work

Nothing is published anonymously. A name on a page means somebody can be asked about it later, and that is the only accountability a small site has.

Priya Sharma, Kashmir travel and culture writer. Priya has spent years travelling through Kashmir and the broader Himalayan region. She writes about travel, heritage and the cultural life of a place that rewards those who look closely.

Amir Khan, Lifestyle and entertainment writer. Amir covers lifestyle, entertainment and the contemporary culture of South Asia. He is particularly interested in how tradition and modern life intersect in cities like Srinagar.

Zara Malik, Fashion and food writer. Zara writes about food, fashion and the material culture of the Kashmir Valley. She approaches every subject from the perspective of craft: how things are made, who makes them, and what they mean.

How a draft is built

1. The writer collects what they already know and marks the parts they cannot support.
2. Those parts are checked against a primary source, an operator document, or direct experience.
3. What survives step two goes into the draft. What does not is cut.
4. A second person reads the draft for claims that sound firmer than the evidence behind them.

Picking subjects

Topics come from three places: reader mail, our own notes, and gaps we notice while reading what else is published. Nothing gets written because a keyword tool suggested it.

Dates

The date on an article is the date it was published. When a change alters the advice, we update the modified date and say what changed. Cosmetic edits do not reset the date, because pretending a page is fresher than it is helps nobody.

What we will not publish

• Guarantees. Nobody in this field can honestly offer one.
• Filler written to occupy a topic rather than to answer it.
• Anything we would be embarrassed to defend in person.

Where money enters

A minority of outbound links are commercial. None of them have ever changed a sentence that was written before the link existed.

Requests to soften a verdict are declined, and we keep them on file. More than one has become the subject of its own paragraph later.

Putting things right

Write to [email protected] with the page address and what is wrong. Factual errors are fixed quickly. If the correction changes the conclusion of a piece, we add a short note at the foot of the page rather than quietly editing it.
