About Asian World Kashmir

What Asian World Kashmir is for, who writes it, how claims are checked, and where to write when we get something wrong.

About this blog

Asian World Kashmir is a blog, and the line under the logo, Kashmir travel, culture and the stories of a remarkable region., is the whole editorial brief. New articles go up when they are ready, and everything we have published stays available in the blog archive.

Most of what is written about the subject is written by people who have never had to live with the results. Asian World Kashmir is the opposite arrangement, and that is the whole idea behind it.

About the name

People ask about the name. There is rarely a good story behind a domain, and there is not one here either. Asian World Kashmir was available, it was short enough to say out loud, and it has been the name long enough now that changing it would be more confusing than keeping it.

How this is paid for

The site pays for itself through a small number of outbound links. It has never been enough to change what gets written, and the day it is, we will say so here.

The people

There is no house byline here. Each piece is signed, and each signature leads to everything else that person has put their name to.

Priya Sharma, Kashmir travel and culture writer. Priya has spent years travelling through Kashmir and the broader Himalayan region. She writes about travel, heritage and the cultural life of a place that rewards those who look closely.

Amir Khan, Lifestyle and entertainment writer. Amir covers lifestyle, entertainment and the contemporary culture of South Asia. He is particularly interested in how tradition and modern life intersect in cities like Srinagar.

Zara Malik, Fashion and food writer. Zara writes about food, fashion and the material culture of the Kashmir Valley. She approaches every subject from the perspective of craft: how things are made, who makes them, and what they mean.

What we cover

  • Travel. Articles filed under Travel.
  • Culture. Articles filed under Culture.
  • Food and Cuisine. Articles filed under Food and Cuisine.
  • Fashion. Articles filed under Fashion.
  • Lifestyle. Articles filed under Lifestyle.
  • Entertainment. Articles filed under Entertainment.

Articles are filed under one topic each, so an archive page reads as a list rather than a pile. Most of the traffic here lands on travel, culture and food and cuisine.

The method

Each article answers one question about the subject and then stops. Padding a page to look thorough is the easiest way to waste a reader's afternoon.

We are not neutral about quality, but we are honest about incentives. Where money is involved, the page says so.

The full process, including corrections and commercial links, is set out on the editorial policy page.

What we do not do

What we do not do is predict outcomes. Nothing about the subject works that way, and pages that pretend otherwise are selling something.

Corrections

Corrections go to [email protected]. Quote the sentence rather than describing it. We would rather log a visible correction than edit a page and hope nobody noticed, and the contact page explains the rest.
