How long a reply takes

Expect a reply inside a couple of working days for most things. Anything that needs verifying first runs slower, on the principle that a late answer beats a confident wrong one.

If we got it wrong

Quote the line you think is wrong and say what it should say instead. That is enough. The editorial policy sets out what happens next, including when a correction gets a visible note.

What to include

Detail up front is the whole difference between a quick answer and a fortnight of clarifying questions.

1. The question first. We read the first two lines properly and skim the rest, which is honest rather than rude.
2. The page address, if there is one. Describing an article is much slower than pasting its link.
3. What you saw and what you expected. Those two together solve most of what arrives in the inbox.

Beyond what we can do

Some requests we simply cannot take. Chasing a company on your behalf, fixing an account we never issued, or ruling on a situation only you can see all fall outside what a publisher does. Asian World Kashmir covers the subject in general, and the legal notice marks the boundary.
